Meet the team
We are very fortunate at New Forest Slings to have a truly amazing team of passionate volunteers. Be it doing demos, making cuppas, helping promote the Facebook page, offering advice and support in the group, doing printing, running the sling library and many many other crucial and important tasks. So here’s a little about us all.
Hello. I live in the New Forest near to Lepe Beach with my husband and four children: Eleanor 13, Isabelle 9, Theodore 5 and Harriet who was born in January. With my first two children my husband used a Baby Bjorn and a hiking style carrier but I never did as I found them really uncomfortable. When pregnant with my son, I was pointed by another mum to stretchy wraps and started my sling journey when he was tiny.
I started a house build when he was 5 weeks old and project managing that whilst on maternity leave was only possible by putting him in a sling to walk around the site everyday. I fell in love with many different types of carrier and became so passionate about helping others to learn what I have learned, that I trained as a Peer Supporter with the School of Babywearing and then as a Consultant with Slingababy. I still feel like I am at the start of my journey and find that I learn something new with every parent I help.
I also do lots of other things for families. Find out more about me and what I do by clicking the button below:
I have one daughter, Milly. When she was nine weeks old, she was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia, and had to go in a harness. This combined with reflux and an intolerance, meant that feeding, holding and bonding with her was more difficult. A midwife introduced us to a stretchy wrap, which started us on a babywearing journey that has been incredibly healing. When she got too heavy for the stretchy, we went to a New Forest slingmeet, where I discovered that there was a huge range of different slings/carriers. After a few months of trying ones out, I decided I loved the versatility of wrapping, and also the quick 'up-and-down' of buckles. We've never looked back, and I now only have the problem of trying to curb my sling-buying!
I am a qualified peer supporter with Born to Carry, and am able to help with most things although woven wraps and buckles are my strength.
Mine and my husband's first child, Rhys, was born in March 2015. He loved to be held and when he was five weeks old I was encouraged to go to the sling meet to have a look at carriers. I tried a Hana stretchy wrap and it revolutionised my life! Rhys loved it and it meant I could be hands free whilst keeping him close! Now he's 9 months old, he still loves being carried and we have tried a variety of carriers through the sling meet library. We recently invested in an ABC buckle carrier which my husband and I both wear regularly. I have really enjoyed encouraging other friends who are new mums to try baby wearing and am looking forward to undertaking the Born to Carry Peer Supporter Training Course in the near future.
